2007 Volvo XC70
The Story
The story of this car is a complicated, stubborn one.
This is my '07 XC70. The one that started it all (The addiction to swedish shitboxes).
My first for a lot of things, but most importantly, my first car. I love this thing to bits.
I've been riding around in this car since I was 9. At 17 years old, it was given to me for the blistering price of $0.
I mentioned before that it was my first for a lot of things. Got my first ticket, but also my first license suspension with said first ticket, which led to the car having to be transferred to my name as unfit; Thus beginning the longest, most difficult 7 months (and winter) of my life getting everything fixed and getting it back on the road. It was leaking oil already, but after my license was suspended, I had to take the plates off, and then it sat for over a month going into the winter, and the temperatures dropped fast.
In November of 2024, I started the car for the first time in a month. I only wanted to run it for a minute or two, but I had to help my brother with something on his car beside it, and the engine, from negative temps, warmed up enough to blow the original crank seal REAL bad.
Over the course of the next month, my dad managed to strike a deal with my uncle, allowing me to take the car to his garage to get it fixed. Just before Christmas, the car got towed out of my driveway and soon after it was in my uncle's garage. Then began the aforementioned 7 (at this point 5) months.
It turns out it was actually leaking from just about everywhere, and had almost all original parts with 284,000kms on it. Everything was seized, broke off, disgusting, you name it.
In March of the next year we finally finished everything, got everything back together and rolled it outside to the other end of the property, and started it for the first time in 3 months (after the fuel rail line and chargepipe were reconnected). It was amazing.
Over the course of the next two months, getting the car ready for plating, insurance and finally taking it home, I started refreshing parts of the car's exterior and interior. I LED swapped the majority of the exterior lights, put in the premium sound system and OEM amp, etc. In May we finally put plates on and brought it home.
It's been a long journey, but I've made nothing but good memories in it in just the year and a half that I've had it, despite the issues. Here's to lots more memories.
