1991 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The Story
I'm a 38 year old Lancaster native that was born into a car family. From a young age I had a care taker who was obsessed with "cool" cars. He had a variry of Volvo 240 Turbos but preferred VW. He had a 1988 VW Fox which is where my love began. The list of cars was quite long - My first car was a 1998 VW Golf, 2003 GLI VR6, 2004 R32, 2006 GTI, 2010 BMW 1-Series, 2012 Golf R 4 Door No Sun-Roof (Allegedly the first in the country) 2014 F150, 2018 MK 7.5 GTI, 2023 Audi S5 Sportback, 2024 VW Golf R 20th Anniversary, and my current daily driver is a 2024 Ford F150.
I acquired the GTI in the Spring of 2017 after it made its way around a farily large group of friends and was a well cared for example despite the myriad of cosmetic defects on the car.
It's not a show car by any stetch of the imagination nor is it a time attack, or road course car. It's all go and a little bit of show.
When I purchase the car it had a 2.8l VW Passat motor and over the years I was tasked with reparing small odds and ends (Fans not coming on due to the lack of space under the hood knocking the module out of socket)
In 2022 I elected to turbocharge the car and after 9 months I regrettably spun a rod bearing. This resulted in losing the car for roughly a year while Schimmel Performance built the bottom end while the top was resurfaced and re-assembled by AS1 Performance in Emmaus, PA
