1997 Mazda Miata
The Story
Purchased bone stock in 2015 with only 66k miles. Since then I put a flyin Miata turbo kit on it to make 260hp/250tq on a stock motor and pump gas. And then it blew up… so naturally I had an engine built. Manly rods, wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, boundary oil pump and an ATI super damper. And then I found a ‘99 head that already had some work done. Turns out, P/O had polished the ports and installed all of the cool supertech valve train goodies including a dual valve spring kit. Score. I bought a set of 264 turbo cams and dropped it off to get shaved. After assembly we discovered the engine is closer to 11:1 compression. It’s sitting on BC racing coilovers with adjustable rear upper control arms to dial out some camber. The rear knuckles have been swapped to NB knuckles for the extra 15mm track width, flyin Miata front and rear sway bars. It has a Mazda speed 6 speed transmission paired to a 3.9 LSD which I’m suspecting at this power level is still a little short. Light weight “fake” RPF1’s wrapped in bfg g forces. It runs on megasquirt pnp2 with a flex fuel kit, GM LS style coil packs, ID 1000cc injectors, and 25psi of boost. This car still has a full interior, but I’ve added a few goodies. I installed a Davefab roll bar which I had sandblasted and re powdercoated in a very hotboi purple color, black NRG prisma ultra on the driver side with a black NRG 4 point harness to match. I bought a custom set of revlimiter gauge faces and painted the gauge needles with purple nail polish. NRG short hub and quick release currently attached to a janky eBay steering wheel ( flexes so much during auto-x it’s frightening ) and a Miata roadster tall curved shifter. The exterior of the car is where it’s really lacking, as I’m typing this I’m in the middle of doing some body work in preparation for vinyl wrap in the coming weeks. It has an EBay front lip, custom molded fiberglass lower rear quarter flares, carbon Miata duckbill and a custom rear bumper cut. I also have a carbon Miata hardtop spoiler that will be going back on the car after the wrap comes in.
