2006 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG
The Story
After selling my C63 AMG for my beloved GTI daily, I told myself that I’d be back in an AMG soon enough. Two years later, I made that a reality! As a prior AMG owner, I missed the power and excitement I experienced every time I floored a 500hp AMG V8, and the E55 accomplishes this without breaking a sweat. The timeless design of the W211 E class chassis is an art form on wheels, and is always a joy to admire. Additionally, this E55’s overall condition and paint are in immaculate condition, as it is quite hard to find a bone stock E55 AMG that is clean (and in a beautiful color such as Granite Grey Metallic like mine ?).
Dubbed the M113K, the E55’s engine is a literal torque monster, producing 469hp and 516lb-ft of torque from a 5.4L Supercharged V8 (I like to think of this car as a German Hellcat from the early 2000s). Additionally, this engine is commonly referred to as the “most reliable AMG engine ever produced.” Why? Well, it doesn’t suffer from any major engine-related faults such as faulty headbolts or premature wear on the camshafts and lifters that the M156 motor suffers from. In fact, if maintained properly, these engines can last upward of 400k miles, as proven by The Conforti Brothers with their ‘03 E55 recently touching 450k miles.
I personally regard the E55 as the “Godfather of AMG,” as it was this car that pushed the AMG brand into what it has become of today. It is a profound experience to drive a car with such heritage behind its name, and lets not forget that the E55 was the fastest sedan in the world when launched in 2003. This goes without saying that this car never fails to put a smile on my face anytime I drive it.
