2000 Volvo V70 R
The Story
Hello everyone, my name is Ethan and this is my 2000 Volvo V70 R AWD. The car came from Virginia and was owned by an older Volvo family that were looking to sell this car and replace it with a 2005 Volvo v70r. This was my first car I bought with my own money in high school late of 2016.
The year 2000, Volvo produced the final version of the first generation v70 (the p80 chassis) and moved on with the second generation v70 (the p2 chassis). For 2000 model year R’s, Volvo upgraded the front and rear brakes and add a more sportier interior and a larger engine that make 261hp from the factory. The engine is a 2.4L turbocharger inline five cylinder with single VVT. For the interior you get a more sportier steering wheel with thumb grips and diamond stitching front and rear seats. The trim for the dashboard and center console is fitted with aluminum trim for a sport trim option. Wheels were made specifically for R model cars only for the 2000 model year and brake were upgraded to vented rear rotors and 302mm rotors and bracket for the front for better stopping power.
When I was looking for a second car, I wanted a car that can do many things like be comfortable, all wheel drive for snow driving, lots of space to fit a lot of stuff and most importantly look cool going down the road and parked. I’ve always loved the Volvo 850 body style and the feel of the 850’s interior. Over all I wanted a car the feels and drives like a Volvo 850r. When I took this v70r for a test drive I knew this was the car that checked all the boxes. I purchased the car and drove the car five hours back home in comfort and got out of the car with no back pain at all. I knew for sure I made a great choice for my second car.
When my grand parents saw this car for the first time, they didn’t understand why I need a car like this and weren’t a fan of the way the car looked. This made me feel upset that they thought negative about my new purchase. My father even thought the same way and said the 850 was better look. I can agree with this but I still think the first generation v70 was a great looking car and I like the fact it is the same age as me so I feel more attached to this car. Over time my dad and my grandparents understand why this car was so important to me and begin to like the car for what it is.
It took a lot of work to get the car where it is now. The car had been sitting for three years with no cylinder head due to a burn exhaust valve and a leaking fuel lines. Finding parts for the AWD p80 cars are difficult to find now because fuel line aren’t available from the dealer or aftermarket suppliers. All the fuel lines had to be made from scratch.
The car currently is now going through a review, I will be changing the IPD 4t4 turbo and tune to a custom tune and a 2007 s60/v70r k24 hybrid turbo for more of a OEM plus upgrade for the car. Some time I wished I kept the car stock and just do a revised version of the OEM piping for better flow. But the good thing is I still have that option in the future and also put rods and pistons for future proofing.
Thanks for reading my story of my car and for any Volvo people that have a similar car, I hope this list helps you in the future.
