1996 Ford Probe GT

Destine for the scrap yard with only 111k miles on the dashboard, last registered back on 2021 (Last photo for proof). Owner of the junkyard was selling it back in June of 2025. Clean title with no key.

Before getting a key made I jumped the starter to make sure the engine wasn’t locked up. To my surprise it wasn’t. Got a key made, still wouldn’t fire. Check engine light for Crank Position Sensor. Wasn’t getting spark. Replaced distributor, got spark back but was running on the front 3 cylinders. Compression tested the engine and the front bank was reading 180 and the rear was 150 indicating that it had slipped timing. Sat for a couple weeks like this while I came up with a plan to move it to my storage unit.

One of my friends helped me trailer and push it into my storage unit. Real work begins here. Took the weekend to do the timing belt job and replace the water pump. I was correct, the timing belt did slip a couple teeth and was chewing itself in half. Put it all back together and she fired right up!

Next step was to get it road worthy, nothing really fancy here. Got some budget street/race tires. Upgraded the brakes to drilled and slotted rotors with carbon ceramic pads. Welded a pipe where the cat was cutoff from the junkyard. Replaced battery and starter since both of those were toast. Replaced entire cooling system because it started leaking. Interior was a mess. Was able to get new black cloth seats for temporary seating while the tan ones get fixed. Got new tan door panels I got lucky on. Fixed the sunroof and passenger window regulator. Got it inspected.
