1996 Mazda Miata

Mibu is a 1996 Miata who was bought nonrunning in 2022 by my boyfriend Jacob. I was more of a Volvo enthusiast before I got into Miatas, but I urged him to start fixing Mibu so I could enjoy some top-down Miata fun. Mibu did in fact get all fixed up with a brand new cylinder head, and soon enough I became addicted to the Miata experience.

I ended up totally stealing Mibu when the summer came (oops) and he lived at my house while I dailyed him, though Jacob didn’t mind too much since it freed up space at his house and garage for his 14 (and counting) Volvos. And on Christmas 2023, Jacob gifted me one of Mibu’s keys to permanently keep on my keychain – so one could say we officially share him now.

Currently, Mibu’s favorite activities include driving on twisty turnies, jamming to music, participating in autocross events and track days, and flipping his headlights at other Miatas. He has brought SO MANY miles of smiles to me and Jacob, and we love working on him together and figuring out where to adventure next. Mibu has also fueled a full-on NA Miata obsession for me, and made me a huge fan of track and autocross driving. This winter (2023-2024) while he is tucked away for the season, he will hopefully either be wrapped yellow or get a turbo – maybe both if he’s lucky.
